Writing my way to becoming a freelancer
About
I began my freelance journey in January of 2010 after spending years dabbling and reading every book on freelancing I could find (for a list of the books I recommend, see here).
Yet again I had picked up a book on freelancing–How to Start a Home-based Writing Business, by Lucy Parker–only this time I decided to actually do the things it recommended. And thus my business was born.
Why Jargon?

Jargon is terminology which is especially defined in relationship to a specific activity, profession, or group…In other words, the term most often covers the language used by people who work in a particular area or who have a common interest (from Wikipedia).
To me, jargon represents the idea of an exclusive club, a group of people who have had to develop a shared but uncommon vocabulary in order to communicate on a professional level. I want to break into that club.
A little about me:
My name is Melissa Breau. I’m a cheesy romantic, who likes long walks on the beach and arguing about comma placement. I’m also a freelance writer and editor, who specializes in helping business owners put their passion into words. My resume includes time spent at Pet Business Magazine, Columbia University Press and in the Manhattanville College Marketing Department.
